If you want it bad enough, you must work for it!

Well it is the new year and I have been working much harder at getting up and getting the workouts in.  I have pretty much learned that many of these people on the video, with their fit bodies, must have really flexible jobs, I do not.  Fitting in a workout at 5 am, working all day, get home at 6pm to cook supper, spend time with kids and go to bed at a decent time, pretty much happens so fast, you don't even remember half of it.  I have missed a 5 am workout, but then cannot find time to "make up" that workout.  I can only do two workouts in one day if it is a weekend, and that is a stretch.  Weekends are crazy packed for us right now.  SO.....i have to make it work and get this going.  I will stick to the mantra....if you want it bad enough, you will work for it.  I have seen some good results, but like any woman, I want to see it NOW.  So, i will continue my trek of P90x and Shakeology and keep on rocking.

All I Want For Christmas Is......Orthotics

Well I hate that I fell off the face of the earth but I am back.  Work has been crazy so I haven't had a chance to update this as often :(   Too many obstacles have come into play the firs 90 days of p90x that is totally frustrates me.  A gimp foot and the stomach bug took me out some days and then the occasional lazy morning "don't-want-to's".  I even went to the doctor (which I hate to do) and he said my lovely arches are falling and my foot is widening (even more) and that is causing the horrific pain in the ball of my left foot.  He prescribed me orthotics, which I have not been fitted for yet.  I will do that next week when I have a break from work.  I am sure this will help and be my Christmas present this year :-)

I LOVE SHAKEOLOGY.....for those who have tried other "diet fad" replacement drinks, you will be so impressed at this one.  It tastes like a chocolate milkshake....and I don't even like chocolate.  I only got that one, b/c I knew I would have a better time convincing my husband to try it.  We do it after workout every morning for breakfast.  Over break, I am going to switch it up and try it for lunch.  It is just more convenient to do it in the am for me right now.  Even at Thanksgiving, I only had small helpings and only one helping.  It was not the best, but better than any Thanksgiving before!

The BEST recipe ever:
1 scoop of Shakeology
1 cup skim milk
1 tsp honey
2 tsp instant coffee
6 ice cubes
YUMMY!!!!! Tastes like a frozen coffee

Oh and my favorite P90x workout....plyos, which I can't go hard at and that frustrates me.  I also like Kenpo and Stretch.  I have noticed strength improvement mostly in my arms, because of the jillion push-ups in every video.  LOL   BUT, I don't care what Tony says.....jumping jacks are the devil, if you have boobs!  So I modify that every time.  I hope to continue this and keep finding strength and energy to commit.  I want to be an example to my kids and also help my own body image and health.  Happy Holidays

Day 1--Yikes!

DISCLAIMER:  I journaled this the day we started, but now that I have the blog, I am switching to that as my outlet.

TUESDAY:  We decided not to watch the videos before doing them the first time, that way we wouldn't dread it anymore than we already did!  LOL  We are working out at 5am while the kids are still asleep and then it gives us time to shower and prep for our day as usual.

WOW--didn't ever imagine a time when I would be attempting to do "diamond" push-ups.  Hello, my name is Dawn and I admit to doing "girl" push-ups the first day of P90x!  Tony said "quality over quantity" and I stuck to that motto.  I did the best darn diamond push-ups I could do and boy are my abs already tight!  I laughed--out loud--when Elijah mentioned pull-ups!  I couldn't do them as a 7 year old, let alone a 36 year old, out-of-shape-mother-of-two!  But, the chair helped ALOT.  I could still "do" some pull-ups and use the chair for stability.  It was hard, but I didn't want to quit.  I was worn smooth out after the workout, but felt great at the same time!  By the time I could get to the shower, my arms were jello and I wondered how I was going to wash my hair!  LOL  I couldn't wait to have my Shakeology for breakfast and hit the day with a good stride.  By the end of work, the soreness had started and I dreaded the DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) that would set in tomorrow!   Had great energy and didn't even get hungry until after lunchtime!  Woohoo!

I am proud of myself for starting, finishing day 1 and looking forward to day 2! Remember....change4life

Can I Do This?

DISCLAIMER:  I had not yet started my blog, but journaled the following excerpts.

Let me start with a bit of a background.  I have always been the "big girl" in life.  I wish I had a dime for every time I heard, "You are not fat, you are big boned"....ugh!   I have always struggled with my weight and have tried all the fad diets!  Despite this fact, I always loved athletic competition.  No lies, I am competitive.  I can make a contest out of anything!  :-)   I coached and taught physical education for 5 years before being diagnosed with Systemic Lupus.  I loved to participate in the classes with my students and was outgoing, physically in shape and at a good place physically and emotionally in my life.  After quitting a job that literally kept me in decent shape and having to limit my activity and take lots of steroids for a time because of the Lupus, I gained weight...alot of weight!!!  It wasn't until I got pregnant with my first child that I lost quite a bit of weight....yes, I LOST weight, 29 lbs to be exact, before giving birth to Hudson and 19 lbs with Quinn.  Since I can't be pregnant all the time, I have to do something.  I went looking and heard the best reviews, and saw the results on friends who did P90x.  I discussed this with my husband (a recently diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic) because he has lost 40 lbs and wanted to do a little more to get those last pounds off while toning.  We decided to take the plunge.

As I sit with all the P90x stuff in front of me, I can't help but wonder....Can I do this?  I know I physically can, so I guess more importantly I am asking myself if I want to do this.  The answer for me is YES!!!

I took all the pre-P90x measurements and did the pre-test and took my *sigh* pre-pictures. Doing this, above all, made me WANT to do this.  I knew I had been down lately, but didn't want to admit why I had.  It was always in the back of my mind and weighing heavily (no pun intended) on me.  The reality hit me like a Mack truck, I cannot continue living this way if I want to keep my Lupus under control and be around in 20 years to see my kids graduate college.  I want to play with and coach my kids' sports and be the "outgoing" Mom and the fun wife.  I cannot do this without CHANGING MY LIFE!!! It all starts Tuesday morning!  Wish us luck!
